The University of Tokyo aims to nurture global leaders with a strong sense of public responsibility and a pioneering spirit, possessing both deep specialism and broad knowledge. The University of Tokyo aims to expand the boundaries of human knowledge in partnership with society. Details about how the University is carrying out this mission can be found in the University of Tokyo Charter and the Action Plans.
In September 2021, the university announced UTokyo Compass, a set of principles, goals, and specific actions that will guide the university in the coming decades, centered on the theme “Into a Sea of Diversity: Creating the Future through Dialogue.” In accordance with UTokyo Compass, the D&I Statement was created based on an awareness of how extremely important it is for the university to promote diversity and inclusion in order to achieve academic excellence, create knowledge innovation, and cultivate human resources who can act globally. In recent years, the very concept of diversity has expanded to include gender and sexual diversity (including sexual orientation and gender identity) and lifestyle diversity, reflecting a broadening of values. In recognition of these changes, the statement is intended to make clear that the university provides opportunities to participate in its activities equally and fairly.
1) Research student:
Master’s, Doctorate and Professional Degree Programs (regular graduate student) or graduate international research student.
2) Undergraduate student:
Each undergraduate student will be enrolled at a preparatory school designated by MEXT for a one-year intensive course in the Japanese language and other subjects necessary for preparation for proceeding to university. The preparatory course lasts for one year. A grantee who has completed the preparatory education will go on to a university designated by MEXT upon passing its entrance examination.
